This is the new Formula One medical car: our Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S 4MATIC+. I am sure you are ready for a walkaround, follow me! You may wonder what the purpose of a medical car is. It does not replace an ambulance car. Its purpose is to make sure that the medical staff is on site as soon as possible. It also protects the people working at the accident scene. Very special for us: this is the first medical car based on our Mercedes-AMG AMG GT 63 4MATIC+. Why? When you keep in mind that it is 99% a series vehicle, the numbers speak for themselves: 639 PS, 3.2 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h and a top speed of 318 km/h. Well, I guess that is enough for a medical car. At the beginning of the race, the medical car is based behind the race cars. Why? At the start, the likelihood of an accident during the opening lap is very high. Thanks to all-wheel drive, we can make sure that this medical car can follow the race cars very safely and quickly. In case of an accident, the medical experts are immediately at the scene. Here comes the first obvious difference to the series car: this carbon-based light bar here. You can also see some aerials. By the way, this one in the front is exactly the same one used on the Formula One cars. The purpose here is to have flashlights for the race drivers. But we also use the aerodynamics to increase the downforce and the balance of the car. Our series wing blade here at the rear is adjusted precisely for the flow that comes from the light bar. This way, we have enough downforce for the vehicle at top speed. Here comes the second big difference to the series car: If we open the boot, you first see these flashlights here. The obvious reason for that is safety once you open the boot. If you look in the boot, you see all the racks here. That is important to safely transport all of the medical equipment. Of course, we have two fire extinguishers. You may wonder why the boot is empty. Well, the medical staff brings the up-to-date medical equipment right before the race and puts it into the car. We are very proud that since 1996, Mercedes-AMG has provided the medical car for all Formula One events. Let’s hop inside now. Welcome inside the Formula One medical car! It is basically a series Mercedes-AMG GT 63 4MATIC+ with some minor changes. First of all, we have a keyholder here. As we are not locking the Formula One medical car, we have to make sure the key is positioned safely inside the car. I have a six-point belt here and there is another one here. We have race seats. And 4-point seat belts at the rear as well. You are now in the seat of Dr Ian Roberts, Formula One Chief Medical Expert. Usually, one or sometimes two local medical experts are seated in the rear. Plus, keep in mind the heavy medical equipment that we put in the boot. This means this car is fully loaded. You know Mercedes-AMG cars are made for racetracks, but this car, fully loaded, going at high speed behind a bunch of Formula One cars, that is a challenge even for a Mercedes-AMG car. But we make sure that this 4×4 car drives safely and quick enough at all times. These buttons here are another difference to the series car. The pod vape devices white label ( one controls the flashlights. The yellow one controls the light bar on the rooftop. Green is when Formula One cars would be allowed to pass the medical car, usually that doesn’t happen. And the blue one is the siren. The buttons here control the radio. There is one for the driver and one for Dr Ian Roberts. The next major difference to the series car are these screens up here. On the far right one, the teams in here see the Formula One live broadcast – exactly the same pictures that we see at home in front of the television. Up here, the medical experts can see the racetrack itself with all the cars on it. Thanks to this electronic rear-view mirror, the team can see everything that happens behind the medical car. Another small difference and a fascinating detail are these marshalling lights here. They show all the colours of the flags the marshals are waving next to the track. But the medical car has an additional feature: If something happens, the lights begin to flash, so the team in here knows that something has happened. But how do they know? Well, all Formula One drivers wear special gloves with sensors in them. These sensors measure the heart rate and the oxygen saturation of each driver. This data is then transmitted to the car. If a glove registers a certain G-force, these marshalling lights begin to flash and the team knows something has happened. That is about it for the interior of our new Formula One medical car.
